Music

Our Champion of Music - Acoustic Andrzej

At Cawston Grange Primary School, we believe that music is an essential part of a child's development, fostering creativity, emotional expression, and a sense of belonging. Our music curriculum is designed to inspire and engage students, helping them discover the joy of music through listening, performing, and composing. We prioritise creating a broad musical culture that celebrates a wide range of musical genres, styles, and traditions from around the world and recognise the enriching learning experiences music provides the wider curriculum, in order to nurture a well-rounded education. Through exposure to diverse musical influences, we aim to inspire curiosity, broaden horizons, and develop an appreciation for different cultures and artistic expressions.

Our music curriculum is designed to be inclusive and responsive, ensuring that all children are encouraged to explore and express themselves through music in a supportive and welcoming environment. We believe that music is for everyone and therefore want every child to be given the opportunity to participate, whether through vocal performance, instrumental play, or composition. By adapting our approach to suit the varying needs of our students, we ensure that each child can engage meaningfully with the subject, build confidence, and develop a lifelong love for music.

By recognising and nurturing the individual interests and talents of each student, we aim to create a music education that not only enhances their creativity and musical skills but also supports their emotional and social development.

Our Curriculum content is underpinned by the National Curriculum and we use Charanga and Sparkyard to support the delivery of our Music education at Cawston Grange Primary School. We ensure progression throughout the different year groups by ensuring all pupils are challenged and supported to reach their full potential and most importantly that they are ambitious and happy learners.

'Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity.

A high quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music

and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity

and sense of achievement.'

We have been learning about how the Lunar New Year is celebrated in countries like China and around the world! We watched videos of professional performances and noticed how they usually had a band/musicians to help them keep to the beat of the music. We then made our own dragon and used musical instruments to do our own performances!!

Reception have had a go at composing their own music using instruments and body percussion!

Lunar New Year - Dragon Dance

The Dolphins have been learning about the Lunar New Year/Chinese New Year celebrations! We watched professional Chinese Dragon/Lion dances online and talked about the music and ways of moving to the music. We created our own dragon puppets inspired by the incredible dancers in China.
Here are two girls who worked together to create their puppet and wanted to perform their very own dragon dance for the class! They did it without music first and then decided they needed music to make it more authentic... we watched both as a class and learnt about 'tempo' - how fast or slow music goes!
