Notices for parents and carers:

To help them thrive at school, please make sure your children bring their named water bottle and bag every day. They can swap their class reading books as regularly as you have read them and we encourage the children to start doing this independently, in order to encourage independence and a love of reading.  All clothing (including PE kit items and shoes) should be named to help the children (and us!) identify whose is whose. Thank you

PE - Friday morning (PE kits are kept in school until half-term when we send them home to be washed)

Library - Wednesday mornings.    Please remember to return the library book each week!

Nature Classroom - Wednesday afternoons.   So that we can access this in all weathers, please send your child to school on Wednesdays wearing their uniform top/jumper/cardigan, but with waterproof trousers/leggings/joggers to give them extra protection. If possible, we also recommend that they have a pair of wellies to keep in school to wear in the Nature Classroom and in our outdoor area when the weather is poor.

Supporting your child at home Each week, we will be learning 4 new GPC’s (grapheme phoneme correspondences) in Phonics. We will send home a sheet at the end of the week containing these sounds and some activities for you to help your child practise their reading and writing skills at home. If they have completed their sheets, they can come and show us to gain a raffle ticket for the Friday draw!

Each child in Reception has been given a Doodle login for Maths and this is a great way of engaging them interactively in problem solving and numeracy skills using ICT. Lots of you had said during our recent parents evening, that this seems to be a real hit with the children so if you haven’t logged in yet – have a go!

We had such a wonderful time on our first school trip to the Sea Life Centre! Highlights include: a magical moment in the tunnel seeing the giant sea turtle and sharks swim all around us, the colourful jellyfish and of course our friendly cousins, the Gentoo penguins! We even found Nemo and Dory!

We have been developing our balance and core strength whilst experimenting with different ways to move about on the apparatus during our PE sessions in the hall.

It was great to see everyone challenging themselves and taking risks (with a little help and guidance) in order to prove to themselves that they can achieve great things when they give them a go!

We've had some furry visitors come in to help us learn about taking care of animals and what a vet does.

We have been SO impressed with how well the new Penguins have settled in here at Cawston and have really enjoyed getting to know everyone and seeing their friendships begin to blossom. We would like to thank all of the parents and carers for being so wonderful and supportive during the induction period; we know it can be a challenging and emotional time but you have all helped to support the children in making the best possible start to school and should be so proud.
