  • Waste Week starts Monday 8 March

    Thu 04 Mar 2021

Next week, our school is joining hundreds of other schools and taking part in Waste Week to investigate the BIG problem of food waste!

Did you know that the amount of edible food wasted in the UK could fill eight Wembley Stadiums? Or that we throw away 20 million slices of bread EVERY day in the UK, which creates greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to over 140,000 cars every year?

During Waste Week, we will be learning about the impact of food waste – and doing something to tackle it. This is where you come in! As well as the activities in class, we’re running the Great Busta Bake competition and inviting children to create a dish from leftovers or ingredients that might otherwise be thrown away (such as over-ripe bananas, bread crusts etc.). Recipe suggestions can be found on your class blog page or you may have your own ideas.

There are prizes for individual winners – they could make it into the Great Busta Bake Cookbook! and the school with the highest percentage of students taking part could win an exciting assembly featuring the Wastebuster characters, so please get involved:

    • It can be their own creation or an existing recipe

    • They need to email an image of their dish and recipe to contact_us@jointhepod.org.

    • Entries will be judged on edibility, eco-impact, practicality and presentation

    • The deadline is midnight on Friday 26 March 2021

  • Big Garden Birdwatch

    Thu 28 Jan 2021
The RSPB annual Big Garden Birdwatch starts tomorrow (Friday 29 January) and finishes on Sunday 31 January.  All you need to do is spend an hour counting the birds you see in your garden or from your window, then tell the RSPB what you saw. It really is that simple!   Full details can be found on the RSPB website - www.rspb.org.uk/get-involved/activities/birdwatch/.  To help you identify the birds, on the next page is an identification chart.
  • Virtual Library

    Thu 21 Jan 2021

As you all know reading is one of the most important areas of learning for you at primary school.

It is not just about your school reading book but also those non-fiction areas you are interested in maybe dinosaurs, the Romans or space.  You may love reading comics or even your parent’s newspaper.

All reading is important so to help you further those skills you will be able to access books online via a virtual library. The library will provide a book a week from its author of the week. The aim is to increase young readers' access to e-books and audiobooks.  https://library.thenational.academy

  • Warwickshire Local Welfare Scheme (WLWS)

    Thu 26 Nov 2020

The WLWS helps vulnerable families at times of unavoidable crisis by providing basic and essential help. It is recognised that within the Scheme that some families who are eligible for free school meals, have difficulty covering the period when children are at home in the school holidays. The Scheme will benefit those children eligible for benefit free school meals as well as their younger non-school age siblings aged 2 or above.

The only eligibility criterion for this offer is that parents are registered for free school meals (not to be confused with Universal Infant Free School Meals).

Families wanting to apply for support through the Scheme should call 0800 4081 448 or 01926 359 182.
